Urgent Needs

Our mission is to purchase critical care equipment and occasionally softer items to make a child's stay at Shannon Medical Center a bit easier. We want to keep families close to home for their treatments.

Here's what we are shopping for:

Pediatrics

Distraction toys

For children, the hospital or clinic environment may be scary. Distraction toys help distract children during IV starts, lab draws, or other invasive procedures. For babies, a nursery monitor that projects an image on the ceiling of wall might be used. For toddlers, something as simple as a bubble wand will provide a distraction from the procedure.

Labor and Delivery

Fetal Monitor

Specialized fetal monitors provide two measurements to give medical staff detailed information about how a baby is handling labor. One transducer monitors the baby’s heartbeat, and the other one records the frequency and power of the mother’s contractions. Both are connected to a monitor, and the measurements are recorded on a paper readout.

PALS Course and Course Renewal

This Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization course is intended for healthcare providers who do not care for critically ill children on a daily basis. It allows Shannon’s in-hospital healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics) to be prepared for every situation when dealing with pediatric emergencies when they happen.

Phlebotomy Chairs

The requested chairs are wider and deeper than the standard phlebotomy chairs, and are also height adjustable. They enable parents to hold their child chest to chest or chest to back so that the child feels less anxiety about the procedure. The adjustable height allows the phlebotomist to be at eye level with the patient. Phlebotomy chairs will go in the pediatric building, main clinic, and pediatric urgent care.

$12,600 (3 chairs)

Food and Nutrition Services

Outpatient Weight Management Counseling

This would allow for a dietitian to do one-on-one counseling with an overweight/obese child and their parents. A dietitian could determine what changes could be made to improve the health of the child. Every child is different in their personalities and needs and individualized plans address those differences.
